Gratitude

Yes, today is December 1st,
and I’m writing a post about thankfulness.

Inspired by friends, I decided to make a conscious effort to share one thing
I was grateful for each of the thirty days of November.

Even though I had to play catch-up here and there along the way,
it was truly a blessing to pause and reflect
on what the Lord has done (and is doing) in my life.

I’m humbled and grateful.
And it made me realize how much I take for granted.
As I get caught up in the every-day-ness of life,
and forget that I serve an amazing, compassionate, and generous God.

Thankful.

So, here are my 30 things …

Kids

Days 1-4: here are 4 kiddos I’m incredibly grateful were born.

5: Thankful for this man. That he loves God with all his heart … and that I get to share life with him.

6: thankful to live & vote in freedom.

7: more thankful to serve Jesus Christ, the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

8: thankful for God’s unchanging Word. Solid anchor in all our storms.

9: thankful for sweet friends, near & far.

10: thankful for changing seasons … and an unchanging God.

11: grateful for all those who have faithfully served to preserve our freedom.

kids

12: thankful for a vacation day to spend time with these cuties

13: Thankful for the privilege of being able to teach our children.
and for the gift of reading … one of my favorite things 🙂

14: Thankful for God’s amazing grace.

15: So blessed & thankful to be part of a counseling ministry that gives people real hope.

16: thankful I get to make stuff

17: thankful to spend time today with my 11 year old girl (! – how did that happen, by the way?) She’s beyond excited to have opened her own Etsy shop with jewelry she made (and photographed) herself. If you get a chance to “favorite” her shop, she’ll be even more excited 🙂

Ocean Sunset Cambria

18: thankful for scenes like this that take my breath away
and remind me that there is an amazing Artist at work every day.

19: thankful for unexpected rest and encouragement.

20: thankful for God’s provision and protection every single minute!

21: thankful for truth. solid and unchanging.

23: amazing grace
24: how sweet the sound
25: that saved a wretch like me
26: I once was lost
27: but now am found
28: was blind, but now I see.

29: thankful that His mercies are new every morning.

30: so thankful that this isn’t all there is.
grateful for this life, but even more grateful for the life to come.

Sunset Clouds

Listen, I tell you a mystery:

We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed—in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye,

at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality,

then the saying that is written will come true:

“Death has been swallowed up in victory.”

(1 Corinthians 15:51-54)

InstaFriday

Remember how I said I love Instagram – the fun app that makes your phone pictures look all retro? And I told Jeannett that if I ever actually had a blog, I couldn’t wait to link up to her InstaFridays – since I was always so inspired by her and Julie’s snapshots of their weeks.

So, here’s my first chance to do it. And yes, it’s Saturday, not Friday. Late Saturday. My excuse is Thanksgiving. That and the fact that I spent the whole evening playing this with the family …

Phase Ten Card Game

Before that I was busy making a mess of the kitchen cutting these up

Pomegranates

Super deliciously good pomegranates.

Super expensive in the stores, which is why we never buy.

We’re still working on the huge bag of them that our friends brought to us last week.

It’s good to have friends. Friends with exotic fruit connections.

This was our Thanksgiving centerpiece,

with lots of added leaves scattered over the table by the eager-to-decorate girls.

Fall Candles Leaves Cake Plate Centerpiece

And these mashed potatoes were the hit of the night.

Made from scratch. One of the very few things that were 😉 They were so worth it.

We left the peels on, by request, and I think it made them even better.

Mashed Potatoes Pioneer Woman

We finished up the leftovers tonight. In record time.

Meanwhile, here’s what it looks like outside our front door.

It’s truly breathtaking. I’d like to just press pause here for awhile.

Hope you’re having a blessed weekend!

Fall Leaves on Trees

“Be at rest once more, O my soul,
for the LORD has been good to you.”

(Psalm 116:7)

Christmas Shopping And A Coupon Code

So, any serious Black Friday deal finders out there?

I must admit, I ventured out last night, after the kiddos were in bed, while my husband caught up on football. It lasted all of half an hour. I had hopes of getting a bike for one of the kids that has outgrown theirs. However. Can I just tell you that when I saw the *madness* (and I do not use that word lightly, I promise) that was the Wal Mart parking lot, I just kept on driving. Did not exit my vehicle. Did not pass Go. Just calmly and quietly drove straight home.

That was the beginning and end of my big Black Friday adventure.

But I must say that I did find some great online deals for specific things I was looking for. Now that is my kind of shopping. Nice and comfortable in my own living room, with a hot cup of decaf coffee, and the kids sleeping soundly down the hall. No scary mobs or freezing long lines, thank you very much.

So, what do you think, did I miss the boat? Was the camping out worth it?

Either way, just to show that I’m not completely jaded, I’m joining in the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals with a Hope Ink deal of my own 🙂

Now through Monday, use coupon code GRATEFUL for 20% off your entire order in the Etsy shop.

Oh, and if you leave a comment on this post, telling me if you braved the crowds or not, I’ll send you another coupon for a free surprise 8×10 art print with your order!

Happy Friday 🙂
