The Power Of Prayer

Free Printable Art Prayer Spurgeon Quote | Hope Ink
Earlier this week, I got to spend some time with friends for a little summer book club. We shared our favorite takeaways from Spurgeon’s gem: The Power of Prayer in a Believer’s Life (which I highly recommend, by the way). I’m only about two thirds of the way through, but there’s been so much that has really stuck with me. Spurgeon has a way of painting such vivid word pictures.

Well, as we were finishing up our book discussion and starting to share prayer requests, my eyes, which had been slightly bothering me all morning, suddenly began to hurt so painfully that I couldn’t keep them open. My dear sisters in the Lord immediately gathered around me, praying for relief and healing. In spite of my intense discomfort, it was a sweet, living example of what we had just been talking about: the privilege of being able to pray for each other, that we can truly bring every concern, big or small to our loving Father.

Gratefully, my eyes are much better, after being forced to rest them all day yesterday –and, without a doubt, because of the power of prayer, as we brought our requests to His throne of grace!

So, today I remembered this quote on prayer (from our friend Spurgeon!) that I had lettered a few years ago for a group of ministry leaders at our church, and I thought it was the perfect piece to share with you all.

You can download the free printable by clicking on the photo above or find it newly added to the FREE PRINTABLES PAGE.

Prayer is the lisping of the believing infant, the shout of the fighting believer, the requiem of the dying saint. It is the breath, the watchword, the comfort, the strength, the honour of a Christian. –Charles Haddon Spurgeon

Isn’t that so good? An always needed reminder of where our comfort and strength come from.

Fun Summer Freebies

Summer Watercolor Scripture Art

Yep, even though we may not be ready for it (or can’t wait to get started), summer is right around the corner, friends!

Our oldest is graduating high school in just a few days, and I’m still in denial. I keep having flashbacks of her cute little baby face and curly pigtails. You could say I’m not quite ready to let her go. But also so excited to see her fly out on new adventures of her own.

So before I get any more emotional, here’s a link to a watercolor printable I painted several summers ago when all my kids were splashing in the pool next to me, and I was reflecting on all the good gifts our heavenly Father blesses us with!

I’m thinking I’ll try the cooling mist first. Or maybe the mask ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’d love to hear what your summer plans are! Any exciting travel destinations on the horizon – or relaxing, close-to-home staycations in the works?

Smell the Roses + Free Art Printables For Spring

A friend of mine and I were talking this weekend and discovered that we both used to make May Day baskets as kids.

It was a sweet tradition I remember doing with neighborhood friends on the first day of May. We’d fashion “baskets” by rolling up a piece of paper into a cone with an added bit of string for a handle. Once the baskets were ready, we’d fill them with wildflowers (or weeds, whatever was handy). Then the real fun started. The goal was to hang the little May Day basket on someone’s front door handle, quickly knock or ring the doorbell, and then run away before anyone saw you.

Sweet, right? Do you remember doing this too or were we the only ones? Regardless, I’m thinking we need to bring May Day baskets back.

So even though we missed the first day of May, I made a virtual May Day basket mason jar for you. The roses are blooming profusely outside my studio window, along with the most heavenly smelling honeysuckle (or is it jasmine? I always get those confused). Either way, heavenly. Naturally, it was imperative that I take a break from my to-do list this afternoon to pick a bouquet for all of us. I needed to stop and smell the roses. And they seriously do smell amazing. But I guess you’ll have to take my word for it.

You can download the FREE PRINTABLE HERE

I only wish I could make it scratch-n-sniff for you. But I’m so grateful for the glimpses of heavenly beauty He sends us here on earth – along with gentle reminders to slow down and enjoy them.

Of Gardens, Winners, and Second Chances

Garden Marigolds

I absolutely loved hearing from so many of you in different parts of the country – and around the world – describing your seasons and what’s currently blooming (or not). Such an amazing, beautiful planet that God created for us, isn’t it? And what grace He gives us to enable us to experience and enjoy it, in all its varied forms. Spring, summer, fall, winter, and all the shades in between.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot.

– Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

I was reminded of the sweet truth of that today. The sun was shining, a little breeze was blowing, and we enjoyed (nearly perfect) temperatures in the mid to upper 70’s. My eleven year old has been begging to plant a garden for months (well, actually ever since we inherited a little backyard planter box when we moved into our house over three years ago).

Garden Box

So today was the day. Planting a tiny garden day.

Even though I had eleventy-hundred other things that needed doing, I made the deliberate (and honestly, not so easy) choice to set my to-do list aside and enjoy the plants and the breeze and my girl.

Such a gift. Even if we don’t manage to keep everything alive in the hundred-plus temps that are right around the corner. We made memories today. And that’s all we really ever have. Today.

I’m so grateful that the Lord keeps giving me second chances to re-learn these lessons. And of course, when I say “second chances,” I mean fifty-thousand-and-counting chances.

Hope Ink Art Giveaway

Meanwhile, one of those things that had to be put on hold earlier today was announcing a winner for our spring de-cluttering Giveaway. But never fear, although a little late, I’m happy to report that I’ll be sending this pretty package of treats to …

Karen R.

(located in, as she describes it: “temperamental Indiana”)

Now, for the first surprise that I mentioned last week … I actually have TWO packages of art to give away. Which means, we get to pick a second winner!

Dale D.

Yay! I’ll be contacting you both via email to find out where to mail all your goodies.

I wish I could send a package to every one of you. Thank you so much for blessing me with snapshots of where you are in the world. I truly loved hearing from each of you.

Hope Ink Bonus Offers

As for the second surprise (and a second chance of sorts), I’ve been busily working for weeks nay, months on a virtual storehouse of fresh designs, along with a brand new mid-year calendar for June 2019-May 2020!

Now here’s the really fun part, most of what you see pictured above will be available as bonuses in the Ultimate Homemaking Bundle launching in just a few days! What this means is that when you purchase your copy of the Bundle, you’ll also have the chance to get a huge amount of Hope Ink art (along with hundreds of other amazing resources) for a tiny fraction of their actual cost. It’s truly an incredible collection, and I can’t wait to share more details with you just as soon as I can –including an extra added gift exclusively for Hope Ink friends!

Until then, I pray that you are able to enjoy His gracious gift of today … and trust Him for tomorrow.

I would love to hear something good that you’re experiencing where you are today!
