No matter what corner of the world you’re in, things have been more than a little anxiety inducing lately, haven’t they? And it can be so tempting to give in to fear. Sometimes it seems almost impossible to experience true peace – whether because of world events or day to day challenges.

So here’s the thing: I wanted to remind you today that you’re not alone in this oh-so-common struggle against anxiety. And to let you know that there is hope and real solutions available.

Some of you may know that my husband is a biblical counselor. And I like to say that while I love making pretty art out of Scripture, he’s doing the more serious in-the-trenches kind of work, sharing the hope and life-changing truth of God’s Word where people need it most. After more than 20 years of ministry and counseling, he’s found that anxiety is definitely one of the most prevalent issues, affecting almost every area of life. It’s a big deal. But the incredibly good news is that there’s so much hope and peace when you know where to look!

Recently my Mark was asked to speak on the much-needed topic of how to feel safe in an unsafe world, as well as share some practical, biblical tools for overcoming anxiety. It couldn’t have come at a better time, and I think you’ll be as encouraged as I was if get a chance to listen.

ONE OF THE BEST THINGS I DID

Setting goals (and keeping them) can be hard. But they can also be such a blessing when you follow through (how ever imperfectly) and see real results that make a difference, big or small, in your life and the lives of those you love.

The beginning of a new year, let alone a new decade, is a natural time to take stock of where you’re at, where you’ve been, and where you want to go.

And whether you make resolutions, set goals, or just take small, daily steps in the right direction, one of the best things you can do for yourself and for your relationship with God and others, is to spend regular time each day in Scripture. There’s truly nothing like it, and it sets the tone and foundation for everything else.

Last year, I made a commitment to read the Bible every day from beginning to end. It wasn’t the first time I had done this, but it was the first time I did it in chronological order. Every time it truly gets sweeter, and I see so much more than I did before. And I always tear up in the last few chapters, imagining what it will be like to see Jesus face to face.

So, at the top of my list for this year is starting the Bible over again. And I would love for you to join me!

You don’t have to have a “special” Bible to do this – just click on the photo above or head to my FREE PRINTABLES page, download and print off the double sided sheet, fold it in half, and slip it in your Bible where you’ll always be able to see where you’re at. You can check off the box for each day or highlight the reference to mark your progress. And don’t stress if you miss a day or three – just pick up where you left off and keep going! Faithfulness is the goal. Not perfection.

It’s the first day of November, and I’m so excited to be sneaking off this weekend for a little retreat in the mountains. In the midst of a super busy season, I’m looking forward to time with friends, time with the Lord, and time to just … be.

Although I love home, it’s nice to get away from the everyday routines and responsibilities every now and then. Don’t you think?

Even when we might not have time or resources to take an actual trip, there are other ways to create that needed rest and recharging right where we are. And, for all it’s shortcomings, today’s technology is such a crazy thing when you really stop and think about it – bringing people together from all over the world, right into our living room, or car, or a tiny little device we hold in our hand or wear on our wrist (!).

One of the biggest blessings of having an online shop, is the sweet friends that I’ve connected with over the years, that I would’ve never met otherwise (including so many of you!). It’s also given me some unexpected opportunities, like the one that my friend Jami invited me to be a part of recently –which I’m excited to finally be able to share with you too!

TRAVEL + ADVENTURES

Long ago, when I was a single girl, instead of a wife and mom, I went on a mission trip to the jungles of the Amazon.

Looking back now, I can see that it was a series of miracles that took me there –and brought me safely home again. Including the fact that after paying for my plane ticket and living expenses for two months, I set off on my journey with only a small backpack and $20 in my pocket. And by the time I found a hammock and mosquito net (jungle necessities) in the local market, I’m pretty sure my remaining financial reserves were in the single digits. And you know what? It was an amazing trip. New and exciting (sometimes scary) experiences. All memories I’ll never forget. And friends made for a lifetime.

I’m definitely in a different season of life now and even though the longest excursions our family of six usually makes is a relatively quick drive to the beach or up to the nearby mountains, I still get excited at the thought of planning a trip. And seeing how far our dollars can stretch –just like I did during my Amazonian adventure.
