times and seasons

hello, monday.

hello it’s the first day of October
which means it’s supposed to be nice and coolish.
but it’s not.
because we live in California.
and California has a mind of its own.

clouds and fir trees

hello beautiful skies.
which almost make up for the heat.
almost.

kids playing board games

hello little snips of quiet time
in the midst of crazy busy days.

sunset sky

hello beautiful serene sunsets.
to remind me that He is faithful.
even when I am not.
every day.

What are you saying hello to this week?

{inspired by Lisa’s hello’s}

Hello Monday

Hello, Monday!
Hello, we’re halfway through July!
How did this happen?

coffee and silverware

Hello, breakfast date with my husband while the kids are at Vacation Bible School.Hello, uninterrupted conversation and multiple cups of coffee!

Farm Fresh Eggs

Hello, super fresh eggs from the farmer’s market.
In a pretty, pink box.
Hello, cheaper than the grocery store?!
Or even Costco.

Scripture Verse Bucket

Hello, written encouragement for the kids.
Which I think I need more.

Scrabble Love Tiles

Hello, vintage Scrabble game,
discovered at an estate sale I almost didn’t stop at,
but did — only after being convinced by my 10-year-old.
Hello, family game night.

Lavendar and Butterfly Art

Hello, sweet lavender from a friend’s garden.

Romans 8 Bible Page

Hello, healing Truth that reminds me not to fear
anything.
Because I am His.

What are you saying hello to this week?

Summer & The Amazing Chocolate Smoothie

Summer time is officially here!

(Well, maybe not “officially” as in actually observing the first day of
summer on the calendar).
But for us, it’s here.

School’s over.
The central California heat is kicking into full gear.
Flip flops are required attire for any and every day.

And our Vitamix is pulling its weight around here
making lots and lots of ice-cold fruit smoothies.
I love that we can make such healthy treats with minimal effort on my part.
Happy kids. Happy mama.

Also, since I’ve been on a no-grain, no-sugar self-imposed torture kick
for the past few months,
the smoothies have been a lifesaver
for my sugar-craving, chocolate-loving self.

So this, my friends, is the best *healthy* smoothie I’ve ever tasted.

Chocolate.
No sugar.
Healthy.
Chocolate.

Surprisingly discovered in this little recipe book
checked out from our local library …

Super Charged Smoothies Recipe Book

It was the first recipe I opened to, the first one I tried,
and I’m seriously having a hard time making anything else.
Super good.
Did I mention chocolate?

Okay, here’s the recipe …

Cacao Frenzy
or Best Chocolate Smoothie Ever
(I double these amounts so I can save some for later share with the kids)

  • 1 1/4 cups almond milk (or milk)
  • 4 Medjool dates, pits removed (our Costco has these in a big tub)
  • 2-3 Tbsp raw cacao powder (I use regular cocoa powder)
  • 1 Tbsp raw coconut butter or coconut oil
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup raw hazelnuts or almonds (or do a mix of both if you’re feeling crazy)
  • 10-12 drops of liquid stevia (I like the KAL brand – order on Amazon)
  • 10 ice cubes (add more if needed to make it thicker)

I could copy all the unnecessary detailed instructions
from the recipe book,
but I pretty much just throw everything in the Vitamix
and blend till happy.

Let me know if it changes your summer
like it has mine ๐Ÿ˜‰

Breaking the Silence

Hi.

I know I’ve been quiet now for a long time.

Ever have one of those days … weeks … months …

when you need to be quiet for awhile?

Yeah, me too.

Let’s just say it’s been a rainy season … in more ways than one.

Rainy Day Trees Through Windshield

(This was taken from inside the car – waiting for the 7 year old’s baseball practice to be done.)

But I’ve been encouraged in this rainy-ness with daily reminders of truth.

Solid and unchanging.

Like this ….

Rain Cloud Bible Verse Illustration

His consolation brings joy to my soul.

(I’ll let you in on a secret …
sketching Scripture is one of the most restful things for me to do.)

Pure joy.

And I’ve had fun sharing my random sketches on my phone via Instagram

Instagram Profile Screen

(Plus, even if you don’t have it on your phone,
did you know you can use it on a computer with Webstagram?
I just discovered this recently.)

So, although I’ve been quiet here, I’ve managed to post a few things there …

daily inspiration.

This was from earlier today.

Just what I needed to hear. And see.

In black and white.

So, what’s encouraged you lately?
