Spring Roses | Hope Ink

Spring is in full swing here in sunny California, and I’m continuing my season of simplifying, organizing, and general de-cluttering of all the things. With four kids, two dogs, and a semi-regular habit of moving, I’m coming to terms with the fact that this is an ongoing (lifelong?) process that will never be fully DONE. I want to be okay (even content) with the less than perfect messiness of life, and to be grateful for what that means.

Life.

Abundance.

Growth.

To be genuinely thankful for what is, rather than longing for an always elusive, unattainable ideal. To be able to sincerely say …

If you’re on Instagram, you may have seen a post from me last week sharing a bit about why I’ve been even more scarce than usual.

Long story short, my computer had a major crash while in the midst of a routine update. And although we’re not completely out of the woods yet, after lots of work and prayer and pieced-together backups, we’ve been able to recover almost everything of importance. Including my artwork and my husband’s books (not to mention almost twenty years of family photos!).

Similar to the spring cleaning we’ve been working on in the house, it’s helped me to take stock of all the digital clutter that has built up as well. In a sense, this has given me “permission” to take the time to go through and decide what is truly meaningful and worth saving.

It’s also reminded me that even in the mundane (and often unwelcome) things that we find ourselves tasked with, it helps to remember that if we are loving and faithful with what we’ve been given, we can entrust the outcome to God. He is, after all, the One who has the whole world in His hands –including computers.

As For Me And My House We Will Serve The Lord | Joshua 24-15 | Hope Ink Scripture Art

 

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Our world, our lives … can be hard, crazy, way-too-busy, exciting, scary, beautiful, uncertain, lonely, painful, and unexpectedly sweet. Up and down, back and forth, always changing.

So what a gift, what a solid anchor it is to know that HE never changes. Strong and steady. Always faithful. To be reminded that whatever shifts around us, THIS is the main thing.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

Family

To do our best with the days and the talents we’ve been given. To bring glory to Him. To love others.

In between the usual summer camps and sports schedules, our family will be heading out soon with our church to come alongside another local church in Mexico. We’ll be helping to build houses for two extended families there, along with facilitating a Vacation Bible School.

Of course, as we’ve been preparing for our trip, along with practical household items we’re gathering to share with the families, I had to sneak in some pretty art for the as-yet-unconstructed walls of the new homes.

A few weeks ago, we baked up a storm and cleaned out the garage for a Saturday morning yard-sale-bake-sale-fundraising-extravaganza.

We’re looking forward to what the Lord has in store for all of us, as we step out in faith to share His love and goodness in this concrete way. And we would absolutely love your prayers –for the team, the families, the logistics, and most of all, that God would be glorified.

Hi Friends!

Maybe you’ve noticed that it’s been rather quiet around Hope Ink lately. I’ve missed connecting with you, and pray that this little note finds you well. This year has definitely been a time of growth and “seed-planting” for me –even if fruit isn’t usually visible. Can you relate?

Along with family, parenting, ministry, and the daily-ness of life, I’ve been asking the Lord to help me be more faithful with my time and health. I don’t know about you, but those are some of the first things to suffer when life gets too busy and I start feeling overwhelmed.

So, I started by making some simple changes (simple, yes -but definitely not easy). One of those is saying “yes” less often. I realized that I was saying yes to too many (good) things, and not leaving enough room for the best things.

Along with simplifying my schedule, I decided to be more intentional about how I was taking care of my health. As with any major change, there’s been stops and starts, ups and downs, but overall I’m in a much better place physically than I was last year. And I’m also significantly lighter, weight-wise (hallelujah!).

I’m planning to share more about the details of what’s worked for me, for those of you who have asked, so stay tuned! I know I’m always encouraged to hear others’ stories of overcoming challenges and what made the difference.

At the moment, I pretty much love everything Wardee from Traditional Cooking does – including the great tips & recipes she shares for my new favorite kitchen tool, the magical Instant Pot.

Anyway, feel free to let me know in the comments if you have questions about the changes I’ve been making – and if there’s a specific area you need encouragement in.

One thing I continue to be reminded of is that no matter what challenges we face in this life, there is always, always hope!
